About

The Shovelnose Guitarfish has a flattened body with a distinctive shovel-shaped snout, resembling a cross between a shark and a ray. They are generally sluggish and spend much of their time partially buried in the sand, ambushing prey.

Average size
Up to 5.2 feet (1.6 meters) in length and can weigh up to 40 pounds.
Colors
Dorsal side is typically sandy brown or grayish-brown, providing camouflage. The ventral side is lighter, usually white or cream-colored.
Diet
Primarily benthic invertebrates, including crustaceans (crabs, shrimp), worms, and mollusks. They will also consume small fishes.
Region
Eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from southern Oregon to Baja California, Mexico. Most commonly found off the coast of California.
