The Shovelnose Guitarfish has a flattened body with a distinctive shovel-shaped snout, resembling a cross between a shark and a ray. They are generally sluggish and spend much of their time partially buried in the sand, ambushing prey.

- Up to 5.2 feet (1.6 meters) in length and can weigh up to 40 pounds.
- Colors
- Dorsal side is typically sandy brown or grayish-brown, providing camouflage. The ventral side is lighter, usually white or cream-colored.
- Diet
- Primarily benthic invertebrates, including crustaceans (crabs, shrimp), worms, and mollusks. They will also consume small fishes.
- Region
- Eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from southern Oregon to Baja California, Mexico. Most commonly found off the coast of California.
