The Sacramento Perch is a medium-sized, laterally compressed fish with a slightly upturned mouth. They are known for their adaptability to varying water conditions and can tolerate relatively high temperatures and turbid waters. They are also known to be aggressive predators.

- Colors
- Olive-green to silvery-gray with dark vertical bars or blotches along the sides. Breeding males can exhibit darker coloration.
