The Mayan Cichlid is a laterally compressed fish with an oval body shape. They are aggressive and territorial, especially during breeding season, and are known for their rapid reproduction rates.

Colors
Variable, but typically olive green to yellowish-brown with darker vertical bars along the sides. They often have a prominent dark spot (ocellus) on the caudal peduncle.
Diet
Omnivorous, consuming a wide variety of food items including insects, crustaceans, mollusks, small fish, and plant matter.
Region
Introduced and invasive in Florida and Louisiana. Native to Central America and Mexico.
