Greenland halibut are a deep-water flatfish, with both eyes typically on the left side of their body as adults. They are strong swimmers and active predators, inhabiting cold, deep waters of the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
- Average size
- Up to 120 cm (47 inches) in length and 45 kg (99 lbs) in weight, but more commonly found around 80-100 cm.
- Colors
- Dark brown to black on the eyed side, and pale to white on the blind side.
- Diet
- Primarily other fish (such as capelin, herring, and cod), crustaceans (like shrimp and amphipods), and squid.
- Region
- Primarily found in the North Atlantic, including waters off the coasts of Alaska and Canada, but also present in the Northwest Atlantic, including the Gulf of Maine.
