The Green Sunfish is a stocky, slab-sided fish with a relatively large mouth. They are opportunistic and aggressive, often found near cover such as rocks, vegetation, or submerged logs.

- 3-7 inches, up to 12 inches
- Colors
- Olive-green to bluish-green with yellow or orange on the belly. They have dark vertical bars and a dark spot on the rear of the dorsal fin and operculum (gill cover).
- Diet
- Insects, small crustaceans, fish, and other invertebrates.
- Region
- Eastern and central United States, from the Great Lakes region south to the Gulf Coast. Widely introduced elsewhere.
