About

The burbot is a freshwater cod, easily identified by its single barbel under its chin. It has a long, slender body, a flattened head, and small eyes, and is most active during the winter months.

Colors
Mottled brown or olive green with dark brown or black spots and a pale yellow or white belly.
Diet
Primarily other fish, but also insects, crustaceans, and mollusks.
Region
Northern United States, including Alaska, the Great Lakes region, and some rivers in Montana and Idaho.
